Channel Cardigan Progress

I began this project late last Spring with the intentions of trying to finish it before the heat of Summer set in. Unfortunately that didn’t happen but with the slightest hint of Fall in the air, I picked this knit back up and have made really quick progress in just two short weeks. I officially hit the “preliminary finishing” part of the pattern and it’s just so satisfying to be in the home stretch. This has been a really special knit – not especially easy but very worth the effort. I think it’s probably the most involved sweater I’ve made.  I have a guilty habit of picking patterns I know will be quick, or easy but I learned a ton of new techniques in this project and makes me want to push myself a bit more.

I’m particularly excited to wear this as a maternity sweater since my belly will be growing this winter. I already have a few outfits I hope to pair it with!

Fall Favorites

It never fails. This time of year I find myself wanting to knit all the things. So many new and inspiring designs are released and they’re oh so tempting! With the impending arrival of cooler weather it just has me wanting to knit every spare second. I also find that my time spent on Ravelry skyrockets and I catch myself thinking ‘I should really stop browsing and just start knitting!’

Here are some of the projects I’m loving these days. Some are brand new releases and some are oldies but goodies – but they’re all perfect for Fall!

Old Orchard Kits & Pattern Now Available!

Building our hand-dyed yarn business has so many rewards. We can truly say that we love every phase of the process from picking out yarn bases, dreaming up new colors and color combinations, the manual labor of actually dyeing the yarn, to designing and of course – knitting. But sometimes the ultimate reward can be when someone else loves your product – so much so that they’re willing to use it in their latest design.  It’s the best validation for all of your hard work.  This past week we had the honor of having our yarn featured in Alicia Plummer’s latest shawl pattern  called Old Orchard.

Old orchard is so luxurious, it just wraps around you like a hug and feels so wonderful.  The shawl is a really nice blend of squishy garter trimmed with a fun and beautiful lace motif that’s highlighted by some pretty great color work!

To go along with the pattern release we’ve put together some kits for you!  The pattern uses 2 skeins of our DK for the main body color and then 2 mini skeins for the color work.  Playing with color can be really fun here so even though we’ve hand selected 5 different color combinations we also have the option for you to pick your own — so get creative! Kits are available now!

And if you’re celebrating – then you need cake! And lucky for us, our dear sister Colleen has taken up a new hobby baking and decorating beautiful cakes. But most importantly, they taste phenomenal.

Isn’t it stunning? Thank you for this gorgeous work of art, Colleen. My favorite might be the little swatch… or maybe the stitch markers, they’re just too cute.

Old Orchard Test – Part II

‘Old Orchard’ is a soon to be released shawl pattern by the amazing and talented Alicia Plummer. This is a knit you’ll want to  bookmark because as soon as it’s released, I recommend you cast it on! I really enjoyed testing this pattern and I’m so thrilled with the finished result. The garter section went really quickly but I think my favorite parts of this knit were the lace section and the picot bind off.

I’ll admit, I’m not typically a shawl person. I enjoy knitting them, but in reality I don’t wear them all that often. But this one is different – the shape, the size, and the squishy-ness are all perfection. I was a little afraid it would look too bulky for me. I just barely break 5′ on the height chart, so larger knits can appear as though they’re consuming me but I don’t feel that way when wearing this.  It’s a new favorite and now I’m totally hooked on crescent shaped shawls.

Spring Fling

A few weeks back we made a list of 6 tips for warm weather knitting and without realizing it I was already working on a project that checked all the boxes — our very own free Spring Fling Pattern! I’m happy to say it’s finished and I’m extremely happy with the result!

I chose our Fingering weight ‘Saltmarsh’ colorway which I think is a good cool color for this time of year and it pairs really well with most other colors.

Old Orchard Test Knit

We adore Alicia Plummer and her brilliant patterns.   Make sure to browse AliciaPlums on Ravelry where you’ll find many, many patterns to cast on immediately!  When Alicia chose Nice & Knit yarns for her Old Orchard Shawl, we were delighted and honored to test knit this beauty.

We will let you know as soon as Old Orchard is released, you’ll love this one!!

Spring Fling – Pattern Release

We’re so happy to see the month of May arrive. First because it’s been a cool spring here in the Northeast. Although it doesn’t look like they’re arriving this week, we are really looking forward to warmer temps! More importantly though, we’re excited May is here because it means we’re ready to release our Spring Fling pattern which is now available on Ravelry or at and it’s totally FREE!

In honor of the pattern release, I cast one on in our Fingering weight in our Saltmarsh colorway.  I think it’s going to look great when worn with white, navy, or gray which pretty much describes my whole wardrobe. It’s working up really quickly and is one of those knits where you find yourself saying “just one more row”.

This pattern so easily lends itself to being modified for heavier weights and larger needles, so go digging through your stash and see what you have because this really is the perfect Spring accessory!
