The New England Fiber Festival is just over one week away! We’ve been dyeing and knitting and planning and packing and organizing every spare second we have. The New England Fiber Festival, held at the Big E fairgrounds in Springfield, MA, is a weekend no fiber-lover should miss. It’s full of talented fiber artists and farmers who have everything from roving, to hand-dyed yarn, to woven rugs, purses, soaps, and so much more.
We will be there Saturday Nov. 5 from 9am – 5pm and Sunday Nov. 6 from 9am – 3pm. You can find us in booths 472/473 and other than just coming to see our smiling faces you’ll find a ton of new samples, a bunch of new kits, a new pattern, our be happy tee’s, and skinny mini skeins available for individual purchase. And of course we’ll have a full stash of individual full skeins in all 4 of our standard weights!
Hope to see you there. Please stop by and say “hi!”, it invigorates us and it’s so fun for us to meet and chat with each of you!
Finding happiness can be hard work, but thanks to a couple of sticks and some yarn its never too far away. Personally, Katie and I have more than a million reasons to be happy but today at the top of our list is this new accessory we just launched in the Nice & Knit online shop! Our new knitting inspired ‘Be Happy’ tee is available for just $18 in five fun colors (pink, heather green, gray, lime green, and blue) and makes a great holiday gift, too! Tee’s are 100% cotton and available in sizes SM-XL.
I’m happy to say I did finish my pond hopper hat by my intended deadline a few weeks ago – in just one day as a matter of fact! But since then it taken me exponentially longer just to get the FO pics as it did to actually knit it! Such a quick, and enjoyable knit and like all of Alicia Plummer’s designs, it’s a great pattern. Keep this on your holiday to-knit list for a last minute gift!
I’m about to hop on a plane to Florida in just a few minutes but I brought the yarn to cast on for the pondhopper mitts to match!
I’m making great progress on my pretty poncho knit along. I’ve chosen to knit a three color Boden in driftwood, dockside, and cherrystone for the main color. I think it’ll be amazing with a plaid shirt underneath for Thanksgiving.
I’m enjoying the wonderful renewed knitting furry that comes this time of year for me – I feel like I cant put the needles down.
I’m going to try and squeeze in a project before our Pretty Ponchos Knit Along begins! It’s just a hat – but a lovely one – so I’m hoping it’s possible to finish in the new couple of days.
A few weeks back Alicia Plummer released ‘Pondhopper‘ which is beautiful cabled hat featuring our Nice & Knit DK weight. I instantly loved the look of the hat but other projects meant I couldn’t cast it on right away. But now my Channel Cardigan (post coming soon) is entirely off my needles and it’s not Oct. 1st yet so I can’t start my poncho which means there’s no better time than the present to start Pondhopper!
I’m working this up in our Seaside Colorway and will top it off with a fuzzy faux pompom. Maybe, just maybe I’ll be sharing FO projects by the end of the week!
We’re just 5 days away from the beginning of our Pretty Ponchos Knit Along which means there’s plenty of time to still sign up and there’s still time to save! Don’t forget to use the code PRETTYPONCHOS either on Ravelry for 50% off our poncho patterns or at www.niceandknit.com to save 10% off our Poncho Kits!
For the knitalong, we’re also pleased to have just published a petite version of our Boden Poncho called ‘Boden Girl’. I love how stylish this accessory is for little girls but the functionality also serves a mom and girl well. It is toasty warm but allows the hands and arms to move freely so that lots of playing and fun can still be done!
Yarn: Nice & Knit Worsted (150-400 yds)
Pattern features either a 3 color or 5 color combination chart
Sizes range from 2 – 9yrs.
This version of the R&R Hoodie marks the 4th time I’ve knit this knit and I’m always thrilled with the outcome and thoroughly enjoy the process of making it. The first three I made were for my kids and I was dying for an adult version. Lucky for all of us, Tanis Lavallee updated the pattern to include sizing for adults. I was so excited that I think I cast on the very day it was released.
The zipper took a little trial and error. I wanted to sew it on my sewing machine so that I was confident it would have a nice tight stitch and hold. It took me 3 tries before getting it right — a few attempts when horribly wrong but nothing a seam ripper couldn’t fix. Now that he’s worn it a few times there are a few places along the zipper I may hand stitch down, but now that I finally got it right with the sewing machine, I would definitely do it that way again in the future.

I’ve made my husband plenty of hats, but until now I hadn’t knit him any sweaters or garments and he liked to tease me about it every now and then. Not to worry — he’ll find some ammo for teasing somewhere else but I’m happy to finally say I’ve made him a sweater!
We’re ready for another knit along, are you? It’s no secret we love our ponchos and the versatility that comes along with them. They’re a great throw-on before you leave the house especially with cooler mornings and evenings this time of year. If you work in an office where no one can agree on a reasonable air conditioning temperature, then they’re also a great piece to keep at your desk. In honor of how much we love ponchos – and think you should too – we’re hosting a Pretty Ponchos Knit along featuring either our Kate’s Poncho or Boden patterns! We hope you’ll join in the fun!
In case you need any extra motivation, we’re offering 50% off our pattern downloads and 10% off our Poncho kits! Use the code: PRETTYPONCHOS on Ravelry for 50% off Boden or Kate’s Poncho. Use the code: PRETTYPONCHOS to get 10% off at http://www.niceandknit.com on our Boden Poncho Kit (includes pattern print and yarn) or the Kate’s Poncho Kit (includes pattern print and yarn)!
Sale ends on October 2, 2016.

I began this project late last Spring with the intentions of trying to finish it before the heat of Summer set in. Unfortunately that didn’t happen but with the slightest hint of Fall in the air, I picked this knit back up and have made really quick progress in just two short weeks. I officially hit the “preliminary finishing” part of the pattern and it’s just so satisfying to be in the home stretch. This has been a really special knit – not especially easy but very worth the effort. I think it’s probably the most involved sweater I’ve made. I have a guilty habit of picking patterns I know will be quick, or easy but I learned a ton of new techniques in this project and makes me want to push myself a bit more.
I’m particularly excited to wear this as a maternity sweater since my belly will be growing this winter. I already have a few outfits I hope to pair it with!
It never fails. This time of year I find myself wanting to knit all the things. So many new and inspiring designs are released and they’re oh so tempting! With the impending arrival of cooler weather it just has me wanting to knit every spare second. I also find that my time spent on Ravelry skyrockets and I catch myself thinking ‘I should really stop browsing and just start knitting!’
Here are some of the projects I’m loving these days. Some are brand new releases and some are oldies but goodies – but they’re all perfect for Fall!
