DIY: A Dresser for Brooklyn

I can’t believe it’s coming up on a year since we moved into our new house.  While the house we bought was relatively new, it needed new paint, new carpet, new tile, refinishing of the floors and a lot of cleaning. Some of it we tackled ourselves and some we left to the experts but at the end of the day, it was a lot of work and I still have a lot of projects I want to complete.

One of the projects I only recently finished was Brooklyn’s bedroom. The painting and carpet were done before we moved in, but I never really finished the furniture. One day this past fall we drove past an estate sale and I found a few treasures, one of which was this dresser that I thought would be just perfect for Brooklyn’s room. Since I went with a light blue paint on the walls in her room, I wanted a statement piece to be pink to make it girlie. I took a piece of her bedding with me to the Benjamin Moore store and found a pink paint that matched just perfectly.

I thought I had some ‘before’ pictures but I can’t seem to find them, so here’s the dresser during and after!

I used Benjamin Moore Fresh Start as a primer and Benjamin Moore Advanced for the pink color and did a few coats of each.

I lined the drawers with some really awesome high quality wrapping paper I found at Homegoods.  I haven’t actually sealed the wrapping paper but I am thinking I may go back and do that — or I may leave it and occasionally change out the paper to update the look!

At first I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with the knobs, I thought about buying new ones, painting them another shade of pink, covering them with fabric but while I was working on it, I decided to just spray paint them gold and I really love how this came out. It really brightened up her room and accents the accessories I have in there as well.

To finish the room off, I ordered this really awesome bookshelf from  It took a few hours of sweat equity but I think it was worth it!  There are even a few knitted items on display.

  1. Very cute dresser, color is great. Also looks like the color that is trending right now, Radiant Orchid! Adorable cubby shelf and yes, perfect for your stash!
